Rickmer Rickmers

The Rickmer Rickmers was launched as a full-rigged ship by the shipyard Rickmers in 1896 and was fitted by the Rickmers Shipping Co. for its Far East route. After a storm damage, she was re-rigged to a barque in 1902 and named ‘Max’ from then on until 1916, which was when she fell into the hands of the Portuguese and was renamed ‘Sagres’. ‘Hulk’ was her last name, given by the Portuguese Navy. The association ‘Windjammer für Hamburg’ bought and restored her to her original beauty. The Rickmer Rickmers is now an important attraction in the port of Hamburg.
